Thinking of doing some summer outdoor projects that will boost your bottom selling line? Think outdoor summer activities!
According to a Realtor.com report, some outdoor projects can help boost a home’s value by up to 10 percent. Homes with amenities geared toward summer activities, appeal to buyers and often have higher prices per square foot than similar homes that lack such features.
Researchers found that outdoor showers, barbecue stations, entertainment pools, and fire pits have the largest potential increases to a home’s price.
An outdoor shower offers the biggest return on investment. Researchers found that homes with outside bathing areas had a 97 percent price-per-square-foot premium. They speculate that such a feature may be appealing since it’s usually found in homes that are near a beach or an expensive property with other luxury amenities.
Barbecue stations are 26 percent more expensive than those without. Barbecuing, by a wide margin, is the most popular summer home feature. In Arizona and California, 15.8 percent and 9.8 percent of all listings reference barbecue, and homes in Utah that reference barbecue cost 58 percent more than those that don’t.
Entertainment pools, that have enough lounging space, could give a home a 26 percent increase in its value. In New York state, homes with such entertainment pools were 224 percent pricier per square foot than those without.
Fire pits and backyard fireplaces had a 25 percent premium.
Outdoor features can bolster the prospective value of a home. Buyers looking at homes with such features can envision outdoor (and all-year) summer activities with friends and family.
